CHRISTMAS CHEZ FIELDGRASS!

Christmas comes but once a year and I find that everyone has their own customs and traditions – from the timing of present opening, to the feast that is the big blow-out of the day.  This year, in the Fieldgrass family, it’s going to be rather a big affair. For as well as my husband, and myself there’ll be my two sons and the in-laws. The kids have never really liked turkey, so I’ll be popping a big fat goose in the oven and stuffing it with prunes and fois gras to feed the troops. I’ve always loathed sprouts – much better to have gorgeous potatoes roasted in the goose fat! Then there’ll be plenty of salads, petits pois peas and lots and lots of my favourite cheeses. I think I’m also one of the very few people who actually loves Christmas pudding – complete with lashings of flaming brandy butter and cream, of course! I’ll bake some apples and stuff them with sultanas – then treat everyone to some Ottolenghi chocolates. There really is nothing quite like his salted caramels – divine! Then after a day or two, when the cabin fever sets in, I think I’ll head off to somewhere for some sunshine – Spain or Sri Lanka, perhaps. The perfect way to contemplate the year gone by and look forward to the one ahead.

A big thank you from all of us at EF MEDISPA for your support in 2015 – here’s to 2016. Happy Christmas!

THE 2016 HEALTH & BEAUTY TRENDS TO LOOK OUT FOR

As 2015 nears it end, naturally our minds start turning towards next year. January of course, is traditionally the month when we all rein in our chocolate intake, give up wine, embark on a new fitness regimen and generally try to be fitter and healthier – inside and out. So why not get a little head start and put yourself in the right frame of mind with my top trends to watch out for in 2016 – so you’re ready to hit the ground running when January comes round…

  1. Preventative health:Prevention rather than cure’ really will be the essential health mantra for 2016. This January, we’ll be inviting the fabulous Sadie Frost and her friends into the St. John’s Wood clinic to test-drive a new thermal breast imaging technique. The process works by entering a cold room then having the breasts scanned from multiple angles. Any hot spots that appear may indicate a danger zone for cancer developing in the future.
  2. Hormones, hormones, hormones: Firm in the belief that focusing on hormones is the best way to address and maintain good, overall health, we’ll be inviting Dr Ali over here to the UK from Miami. Specialising in bio-identical hormone therapy, he’ll he helping us breakdown the final taboos surrounding both the female and male menopause.
  3. New body, new network: There once was a time when working out used to be a solo chore. But now that networking is a part of everyday life, smart gyms will combine fitness with furthering the contacts in your little black (digital) book. Case in point – James Duigan’s new uber luxurious, (and uber expensive!) space on Westbourne Grove – and the fabulous Core Collective, that offers pay-as-you-go classes in a cool, urban space. A place to see and be seen.
  4. Brain fitness: With degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Dementia increasingly in the media spotlight, more and more of us are aware of the need to keep our brains – as well as our bodies – strong and fit in order to safeguard our futures. 2016 will see more brain workouts and methods targeted towards protecting the mind as the country’s ageing population continues to grow.
  5. Less is more: Now that facelifts, fillers, Botox and many other types of cosmetic and aesthetic treatments have been available for some decades, I feel that 2016 may be a new era for the industry as a whole. The horror stories of excessive cosmetic surgery will fade as new techniques such as threading facilitate a ‘less is more’ approach that’s minimally invasive – yet yields the best possible results in looking younger and fresher in a more subtle way.

MY NEW ANTI-AGEING TOYS

As you’ll know, I love a good gizmo! So imagine how delighted I was to discover a brand new generation laser, set to revolutionize the way we treat fine lines and facial thread veins. Having coming across the Cutera Xeo Laser at CCRClinical Cosmetic and Reconstructive Expo, the UK’s largest medical aesthetic exhibition – I couldn’t wait to try it for myself. One of the most incredible platforms offered by this new gadget is the co-called ‘LimeLight’. Stronger than traditional pixel lasers, it also has an IPL component, making it ideal for treating everything from fine lines to stubborn pigmentation and veins on the face. Furthermore, as it’s both more powerful and more precise, it’s a fantastic way of getting better than ever results – in fewer treatments with no downtime. Treat yourself to it before a fabulous party or work event and it’ll yield instant results – or build up a course of treatments and after 21 days, you’ll start to see noticeable improvements in plumping and volumizing as it stimulates collagen production. If that wasn’t enough of a discovery, I’ve also had my beady eye on the latest machine from BTL Aesthetics: Seemingly too good to be true, it runs RadioFrequency from one side to the other to target fat cells in a precise manner. So rather than simply tightening the skin, it actually reduces the number of fat cells to make you look slimmer and more toned. In terms of spot fat reduction, it seems like a dream – but ever the cynic, I’ve decided to play guinea pig and put it through its rigorous paces before launching it to customers. So from anti-ageing to fat-busting, watch this space for more updates – the future of gizmos is landing in a clinic near you next year!
