Tuesday Tips

With the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) cosmetic surgery audit figures out yesterday and the Royal College of Surgeons releasing new aesthetic treatment guidelines – everyone is talking about cosmetic surgery at the moment!

My advice has always been, and will always be, to make sure you do your homework before you even consider a surgical procedure or injectible treatment:

  • It is best not to consider surgical procedures when you are experiencing a drastic change in your life. Take time to think about your decision and don’t rush into anything.
  • At EF MEDISPA we will set up a consultation with one of our treatment co-ordinators before you even see a surgeon or cosmetic doctor. This means you can discuss your needs in total confidence, for as long as you wish, and the treatment co-ordinator can advise you on what would be the best treatment or procedure for you. It may be that while you think you need a tummy tuck, but the treatment co-ordinator might suggest a course of non-invasive tightening treatments instead.
  • If you do decide to go ahead with a cosmetic procedure, make sure you see a reputable surgeon, doctor or prescribing nurse who can explain clearly to you the pros and cons of the treatment you are considering. Find out exactly what the treatment or procedure will involve, including downtime and if there will be any level of discomfort.
  • For procedures such as a breast augmentation, you should only ever see a Surgeon (he or she will be referred to as ‘Mr’ or ‘Ms’ rather than Dr) and you should expect to see them for a personal consultation before you have the surgery. They should be able to provide you with examples of their previous work and if you are unsure, visit a number of surgeons before you make your final decision.
  • If you are thinking about trying anti-wrinkle injectibles or fillers, these should only be administered by a cosmetic surgeon, doctor or prescribing nurse.

What’s missing from your knicker drawer?

Now while I’m not suggesting someone’s been rootling through your undies, I am asking for your help. I want to know your knicker woes, your lingerie let downs and every bad experience you’ve ever had with a brassiere. Because as every woman of a certain size knows, finding underwear that fits and makes you feel fabulous is a hopeless business.

But no more! This month sees the opening of my brand new lingerie boutique, Petits Bisous (www.petitsbisous.com) – London’s new destination and bespoke service that promises to get your wardrobe in order and change the experience of shopping for underwear forever. So I’ve banished bad lighting, done away with unflattering changing room mirrors and created a den of naughtiness that you’ll never want to leave!

Enter into the mysterious luxury of the peacock blue and grey ‘toy’ shop downstairs then make your way to the upper level where black, white and silver play host to some specially-commissioned wallpaper of an Edwardian lady who, on closer inspection, seems to be indulging in a little hanky panky…

Perhaps it’s the Petits Bisous scent that has made her feel more than a little risqué? Created specially for the boutique by my Paris ‘nose’, Dawn Goldworm (the nose behind signature fragrances for Victoria Beckham and Lady Gaga to name a couple) it’s a tantalisingly androgynous mix of sweet vanilla, tobacco, amber notes and a hint of warm spice.

And so with bras jostling on the racks, corsets just waiting to be cinched and stockings poised to add a silky finish to legs, the only thing that’s missing are your requests. Not content with stocking the most beautiful lingerie from Paris, New York and London, I will also be designing an exclusive range for the boutique myself. Sick of slipping into scratchy fabrics, I’m sourcing the finest materials for both the inside and outside of garments, to ensure they nestle softly against the skin and make you feel fantastic every time you wear them.

So are you missing an exquisite bra? Have you searched high and low for the perfect pants? Whatever it is, your wish is my command. Just call me the lingerie genie…

Tweet your requests to @EstherFieldgras or email info@petitsbisous.com

Tuesday Tips!

During January we often get a surge of ladies and gents visiting our clinics with the hope of lifting and tightening sagging facial skin. They want to put their best face forward into the new year! If you’re looking for a lift, I heartily recommend looking into a non-invasive facelift before you consider the surgeons knife! The aesthetics industry has come a long way since the ’50s, when it was first realised that botulinum toxin used for freezing muscles to eliminate twitching could be equally effective in eliminating frown lines. Fast forward 50 years and we now have over 100 varieties of toxins and fillers that can freeze, plump, shape, and pretty much sculpt whatever you choose!

It is little wonder then that more and more women are avoiding the knife. Whereas a few years ago, the 50- something well-heeled lady was being offered the scalpel as the surgeon’s only option, today women (and men) from 30-70 years of age are visiting their surgeons and facial aestheticians for minimally invasive procedures (a few injections) which will provide a non-surgical lift.

So what has changed? It’s product, technology and technique. Firstly companies like Allergan and Juvederm have developed new ranges of fillers which provide better and longer lasting results. The needles and cannulae have been improved, allowing more flexibility, and finally younger surgeons have been more creative in adapting traditional techniques. At EF MEDISPA we have a research team of medics who are constantly developing and refining techniques. One of the most popular procedures that provides an alternatives to a surgical face-lift is our own Liquid Lift, which is a bespoke combination using botox and fillers to lift the face and smooth the skin.

The advantage for my clients is that EF MEDISPA provide a comprehensive range of skin care services, so that before the procedure we can use ultrasound for fat reduction around the jowls to firm and smooth the jaw line and after the procedure, clients are offered a comprehensive homecare range tailored to their skin needs, as well as the latest radio frequency technology to smooth and tighten the skin.

Eat your way younger!

We here at EF MEDISPA have come to a bold decision. It’s controversial – but bear with us. We’ve resolved to give up on New Year diets. Which is not to say that we’re going to spend time immemorial stuffing our faces with chocolate, cake and Krispy Kremes – we’re just going to eat smart, look svelte – and still tuck into a few treats here and there.

Thrilled with the results of our own ‘no diet diet’ experiment, we couldn’t resist coming up with a foolproof plan that would bring the benefits to you too. Cue the EF MEDISPA 2013 Youth Boost Diet. Which is more of a way of life than your common or garden hunger pang ‘diet’.

The first step is to stop seeing food as public enemy number one – and start looking on it as your greatest source of long, healthy survival. So step in to one of our clinics for an initial consultation with a nutritionist and we’ll get to the nub of what’s stopping you from being fantastically healthy – and looking it! Then we’ll make like a maths genius and calculate a personalised plan of treatments, plus supplements and delivered-to-your-door meals – all of which will add up to you feeling energised and getting that healthy glow from within.

And whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, faddy about fish or just can’t live without a few sugar-laced treats from time to time, it’s the total no-brainer diet for all those that want to relish what they eat and know that it’s doing them the power of good.

Just look on it like having health and beauty delivered to your doorstep and rest assured that come February, food will be your new BFF!
