Confession time: While I love seeing the world and visiting places far and wide, there is one travel-related matter that I hate…packing! Try as I might, I just can’t seem to get through it without umming and aahing and getting in a tizz about this, that or taking another pair of shoes. But with my summer 2015 fitness bootcamp in Sardinia looming, it was time to see about streamlining the whole business. So for anyone who like me, struggles to squeeze everything into one case, here’s my checklist for perfect summer packing.

  1. Get some stretch: When it comes to fitness ladies, you’ve got to fake it ‘til you make it. And there’s no better motivation than some sparkling new gym gear. I’m a big Sweaty Betty fan and recently stocked up on some wonderfully bright shorts and tanks.
  2. Do the legwork: You should never be afraid to get your legs out on holiday. My new secret weapon is Australian brand Sunescape’s Hydrating Gradual Tan Extender that boosts the skin’s natural melanin production to harness the body’s natural bronzing mechanism. I put some on a few days ago and my husband is now full of compliments!
  3. Take the plunge: I know we’re streamlining here but a bit of choice in the cozzie department never goes amiss! I’m taking my two favourite Eres styles – one navy for when I need to look smart, one lime green when I want to cause a splash.
  4. The shoe department: Always the conundrum – heels or no heels? I hate to get caught well, ‘short’ without a bit of lift in the shoe department, so I take my super comfy Hermes flats, then sling in some Russell and Brom wedges for evening cocktails. Two pairs is the limit though.
  5. Lips and tips: Forget truckloads of make up – easy, breezy and barefaced (apart from a hefty slather of sun cream, of course) is the way to go on summer hols. But a kick of colour on your lips and toes will go a long way to adding a bit of glamour and polish. Lucky things, Tom Ford’s Lipstick in True Colour and Deborah Lippmann’s Girls Just Want To Have Fun nail polish get to come with me in my suitcase this year!

Happy packing!

If there’s one thing that my years of experience in the beauty industry have taught me, it’s that looking good on the outside really does start from the inside. And never more so is this the case then when we begin to succumb to the ravages of time. But with a little holistic intervention, we can all do a lot to halt the onward march of age. Which is why I put together the first ever EF MEDISPA Positive Anti-Ageing Symposium at the end of May. Taking a new, upbeat approach to ageing, the evening took place in our King’s Road clinic as we welcomed four key experts from the industry who know what it really takes to be young and beautiful on the inside and out. Our wonderful nutritionist, Kim Pearson, took us on a nutrient-rich voyage of the foods and supplements we need to feed our bodies as we get older and want to look younger. As we all know, diet and exercise go together like birds of a feather. So Ayo Williams, Manager at the incredible Matt Roberts Personal Training, spilled the beans on how their A-list clients, (we mean you, Tom Ford, Trudi Styler and The Saturdays) stay in shape. Linda Blahr, Training Manager from the fabulously effective and technologically advanced SkinCeuticals was on hand to discuss the products and treatments that really make a difference to your skin. And, a surprise entry for some, Orthodontist Moira Wong revealed how paying a little more attention to the inside of our mouths could actually resurrect the perkiness of our face on the outside. Of course, I was on hand to welcome our 30 guests and stress the importance of taking a multi-pronged approach to ageing. With nibbles and bubbles doing the rounds, the event was soon off to a fizzing start – and naturally, we couldn’t let anyone leave without a goody bag choc full of everything from SkinCeuticals and dental samples to a Matt Roberts training consultation, health boosting bars from Kim Pearson’s Well Woman Diet, juices from Bobo’s Juicery and a gift voucher for Petits Bisous. All in all, the evening was a huge success – so keep your eyes peeled for the next insider EF event!

So the social whirl of the summer season begins…and what better way to start than with the biennial benefit for the charity, Cardboard Citizens. As a creative hub and theatre group for people that have been excluded from society, their spectacular Gala Fundraiser this year took place in Draper’s Hall and drew the crowds – all dressed in their dickie bows and glad rags, ready and willing to spend some serious money in the name of charity! Amongst the crowd, my hubbie and I spotted the likes of charity ambassador, Kate Winslet along with her husband, Ned Rocknroll, plus presenter Clive Anderson, artist Tracey Emin, Spanish princess Tamara Czartoryski and Nancy Dell O’lio. Under the theme of a ‘Museum of Secret Beauty’, 35 homeless and ex-homeless performers provided the night’s entertainment, featuring everything from acting and dancing to music and opera. And after a three-course dinner during which the wine flowed, the live and silent auctions got under way. Holding court at the centre of the live auction was the brilliant Clive Anderson who had money-can’t-buy lots such as super luxe holidays and artworks by Tracey Emin and Mario Testino up for grabs. Kate and Ned even sold off their watches – before bidders fought hard over an exclusive afternoon tea with Kate in the Covent Garden Hotel. As for me? I took a fancy to a fabulous ostrich plume cape – then went for broke on an old fashioned ice cream vendor to make one of my summer parties go with a bit of a swing. Alas, I narrowly missed out – but the good news is that the event raised £147,200 for the charity. A fabulous and philanthropic way to kick off the summer season. Now for hat season as Ascot, Henley and summer weddings beckon..!
