CHRISTMAS CHEZ FIELDGRASS!

Christmas comes but once a year and I find that everyone has their own customs and traditions – from the timing of present opening, to the feast that is the big blow-out of the day.  This year, in the Fieldgrass family, it’s going to be rather a big affair. For as well as my husband, and myself there’ll be my two sons and the in-laws. The kids have never really liked turkey, so I’ll be popping a big fat goose in the oven and stuffing it with prunes and fois gras to feed the troops. I’ve always loathed sprouts – much better to have gorgeous potatoes roasted in the goose fat! Then there’ll be plenty of salads, petits pois peas and lots and lots of my favourite cheeses. I think I’m also one of the very few people who actually loves Christmas pudding – complete with lashings of flaming brandy butter and cream, of course! I’ll bake some apples and stuff them with sultanas – then treat everyone to some Ottolenghi chocolates. There really is nothing quite like his salted caramels – divine! Then after a day or two, when the cabin fever sets in, I think I’ll head off to somewhere for some sunshine – Spain or Sri Lanka, perhaps. The perfect way to contemplate the year gone by and look forward to the one ahead.
