After months of perfecting, our new location EF MEDISPA by Santai is finally opening its doors in Resorts World Birmingham. A city of entertainment all under one roof, Resorts World has shops, bars, restaurants, an 11 screen cinema, casino and hotel to keep everyone amused. But as we all know, in today’s fast-paced lifestyle, we need to squeeze our beauty and body perfecting into time and spaces that offer maximum results in the minimum amount of stress or downtime. Which is exactly why we were invited to create the Santai by EF MEDISPA are for local Birmingham residents, hotel guests (who can access the spa via a private lift) and those visiting the resort for the day. And as well as offering our London menu of specialist aesthetic facial treatments  – including facials, lasers, microneedling and injectables – there’ll also be body and health boosters such as detoxifying wraps, hot stone massage, manis, pedis, makeovers, manis and hair styling. What with the location and everything for a top-to-toe beauty overhaul on offer, I imagine it will be quite a draw for the glitterati. Although still carrying the clean, crisp feel of our EF London clinics, the Worlds Resorts venue brings a sense of modern luxury to its interiors. It’s elegant and exclusive and just the place for the clientele of casino hotshots and celebs that frequent the area. So stop by and visit if you find yourself in Birmingham – on top of lovely treatment, you may even catch a glimpse of what I like to call the ‘spend and sparkle’’ crowd!

Ooh – and PS – we’re thrilled to have recently won the gong for Best Health and Beauty Facility at the London Lifestyle Awards. I actually wasn’t even aware that we’d been nominated until we received notification from the organisers. Needless to say, it’s a wonderful honour and lovely validation for our hardworking team!

What is it about December that sends even the sanest of women into a whirl? Well, added to the pressure of present buying, Turkey stuffing, decorating, wrapping and a partridge in a pear tree, there is – of course – the stress of looking your most sparkling self on the party circuit. Night after night, canapé after canapé – these things really can take their toll on a girl. Which is why you should start you party prep plan now – and supercharge those engines for when the season of mistletoe and rather too much wine kicks off in a couple of weeks. Here’s how…

  1. Perfect those pins: With some Pressotherapy – a treatment that involves wearing super long booties that supercharge detoxification and lymphatic drainage for those that tend to hold water. The result is smoother, sleeker legs after just one treatment.
  2. Hone those arms: To tackle bingo wings for your sleeveless dress, a two-pronged tack is best. So book in for a course of Radio Frequency and Microfirm – then add a triple whammy with some mesotherapy to tighten and tone super fast.
  3. Tighten that neck: A Quick Lift using the Q-switch laser – a non-invasive, marvellously effective method of lifting, firming and tightening to diminish those fine lines and smooth out that sagging when you won’t to show off your décolleté.
  4. Smooth that back: Backless dresses are back this season! But flashing a spotty behind is no way to make an entrance to a fabulous party. So book in for a bacne facial – a salicylic acid peel and LED light therapy that rebalances the skin and makes it look radiant once more.
  5. Buy the ultimate LBD: Naturally! After all that body perfecting, all you’ll need to look and feel utterly fabulous is a brand new party dress. My failsafe designers that always add a bit of sparkly magic to my wardrobe are Amanda Wakeley, Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan.

When it comes to Christmas, it’s natural to think of Austrian markets and Father Christmas’ home in Lapland. Yet peer a little closer beneath the hustly, bustly, shopping-crazed surface of London, and our Capital city really does have some seasonal delights of its own. Here’s where to go and what to do when the season of madness descends…

  1. Eat: At Sexy Fish – the trendy new restaurant on Berkeley Square. Serving Asian food, the restaurant itself is decadent and inviting – and features artwork from Damien Hirst, Frank Gehry and Michael Roberts. There’s even a resident DJ at weekends!
  2. Drink: Oodles of tea at the ever so classic Connaught. Perfect for an afternoon jaunt with the girls, their festive feast includes everything from seasonal cakes to melt-in-your-mouth pastries set to the sound of a strumming harp.
  3. Be merry: At a drinks party. This year, I’ve totted up more than my fair share of Christmas party invites. So I’ll be taking along some wonderful mandarins from Wholefoods – an unusual but lovely treat for any hostess.
  4. Shop: I have to admit, I hate shopping! This year though, my top tip is good old Argos. Perfect for the practical person in your life – or for finding children’s toys, it really is the place where you’ll find everything under one roof or in one catalogue!
  5. See: I love a Christmas show – and none more so than a seasonal ballet. Having seen the Nutcracker! many, many times, I’m partial to a performance of Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty. Matthew Bourne’s modern day take of the latter kicks off at Sadler’s Wells on December 1st.

Happy Christmas hotspotting!

If ever there was a month with a tendency to feel depressing, it’s October. Not quite November when we have Christmas shopping to do and parties to plan for – it also lacks the leaf-turning autumnal beauty of September. Which means that as the clocks threaten to change and the days get gradually darker, one can feel generally down in the dumps. Yet as someone who believes that getting out and about is the solution to sending those doldrums running, here’s my guide to London’s top ways to lift those spirits this month…

  1. Flat Three, Holland Park: No, not my latest property purchase – but in fact, an uber trendy restaurant serving Japanese food that’s sure to tickle your fancy this month. Specialising in tasting and sharing plates, it’s ideal for either groups or of it’s just the two of you. Just don’t miss the delicious scallops and venison.
  2. The Croc Bowling Alley at The Ham Yard Hotel: As it’s my godson’s 15th Birthday this month, we’re celebrating with a round or two in the hotel’s fabulous bowling alley. Super swish with a traditional 1950s feel, there’s a lounge, bar and dancefloor that’s perfect for a mood-boosting party.
  3. The Theatre of Blood Halloween Ball: Like Birthdays, Valentine’s, Christmas and New Year, you can either waste time railing against Halloween – or embrace it. I’ll be doing the latter at this incredibly party that’s set in an abandoned theatre and features a range of bizarre performers and even a spooky ‘Inventor’s Laboratory’.
  4. James Bond, Spectre: As a true 007 fan, I’m looking forward to the opening night of Spectre which will premier in the Birmingham cinema situated near our new venue there, just a few minutes after appearing on London screens. One not to be missed.
  5. Outdoor ice skating: There’s nothing like feeling the crisp, cold air on your face as you whizz around an ice rink in the great outdoors. London’s season of Christmas ice rinks kicks off this month with the Natural History Museum one opening on 29th and Canary Wharf becoming blade-worthy on 31st.
